The orientation session for “The Skilled Workforce: Youth Training and Employment Preparation cohort 1 Project” took place on the 9th of August, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM. The session was attended by six girls, five boys, and three staff members, comprising one woman and two men. The session commenced with a round of introductions, where each participant, including the staff, introduced themselves.
Overview of the Project
Following the introductions, the President of the project delivered a comprehensive presentation detailing the purpose and objectives of the project. The project aims to address the challenges faced by youths in Buea regarding employment due to the significant gap between their educational qualifications and the practical skills required in the job market. Despite holding formal education credentials, many youths lack the hands-on skills and professional attitudes needed to succeed in a competitive work environment.

The project seeks to bridge this gap by offering targeted training in high-demand fields such as IT and project management. Additionally, a transformative mentorship program is designed to instil professional attitudes and work ethics, such as discipline, consistency, and a strong work ethic, which are crucial for long-term career success. A special emphasis is placed on empowering young women aged 15-25 to promote gender equality and ensure they contribute meaningfully to the workforce.
Explanation of Intern Activities and Program Rules
After providing a detailed overview of the project, the President proceeded to explain the various activities that the interns would be involved in during the course of the program. He outlined the expectations, tasks, and responsibilities that each intern would undertake, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the rules and regulations set forth by the program. These guidelines are designed to ensure that the interns gain the most from their experience while maintaining a professional and respectful environment.

Conclusion
The session concluded with a question-and-answer segment, where the interns had the opportunity to seek clarification on any aspects of the project or their roles within it. The orientation session was successful in providing the interns with a clear understanding of the project’s objectives, their expected contributions, and the standards they are to uphold during their time in the program.
