REPORT OF THE EDUCATING YOUTHS ON DIGITAL SUSTAINABILITY WITH EMPHASIS ON THE GIRL CHILD (EYODS) – COHORT 6 SHOWING WONDERFUL RESULTS

1. Overview of EYODS Cohort 6

The Educating Youths on Digital Sustainability with Emphasis on the Girl Child (EYODS) Cohort 6 was launched with a seminar held on 17th May 2026 at Amphi 250, University of Buea, under the theme “Empowering the Next Generation Through Digital Skills, AI & Sustainable Innovation.” The seminar attracted 180 participants (89 males and 91 females) from various academic disciplines and officially marked the commencement of four weeks of practical digital skills training held every Sunday from May to June 2026.

2. Engagement & Interest Analysis of EYODS cohort 6

The awareness campaign conducted at the University of Buea and the Catholic University Institute of Buea generated significant interest among students.

Graphic Design recorded the highest enrolment, while Social Media Management achieved the highest completion rate. Female participation was higher than male participation in most courses, reflecting the programme’s emphasis on empowering young women through digital education.

4. Certification Summary

Certificates were awarded only to participants who attended at least two of the four training sessions (with valid reasons considered for absences) and successfully completed all practical assignments.

6. Operational Insights

The programme recorded strong student engagement throughout the training. Practical, hands-on learning significantly enhanced participation and skill development. Although electricity outages disrupted one training session, catch-up classes were successfully organised at the GoGreen Technologies office, ensuring continuity without affecting learning outcomes. The experience also demonstrated the commitment of both tutors and trainees to the success of the programme.

7. Recommendations

The increasing demand for EYODS highlights the need to expand future cohorts by securing additional funding, training equipment, and venue support. Investment in backup power solutions would minimise disruptions during practical sessions, while stronger partnerships with universities, development organisations, and industry stakeholders would enhance the programme’s sustainability and long-term impact.
