Introduction To Educating Youths on Digital Sustainability with Emphasis on the Girl Child (EYODS) – Cohort 4
The Educating Youths on Digital Sustainability with Emphasis on the Girl Child – Cohort 4 program was launched to equip young people, particularly girls, with essential digital skills. This initiative aimed to enhance self-directed learning, critical thinking, and employability in a digital-driven economy, particularly for youth in conflict-affected regions of Cameroon. Due to high demand and challenges faced, this cohort lasted two months instead of the initially planned one month.

Training Objectives
The program focused on:
- Improving digital literacy and sustainability awareness.
- Enhancing educators’ competence in using digital tools.
- Integrating technology into education and assessment.
- Empowering youth especially girls to become digital change-makers.

A non-governmental group called GoGreen Technologies is committed to giving young people the tools they need to succeed in the demanding world of today. Our mission is to empower young people in a variety of fields, such as entrepreneurship, digital technology, leadership, agriculture, education, and volunteerism. Orientation Seminar & Participation
The program was launched with an orientation seminar after a 2-week intensive sensitization about the program and its benefits. The seminar too place on November 10, 2024, at Amphi 250, University of Buea, attended by over 250 participants.

Training Delivery & Modules
The training was delivered through a hybrid model with onsite sessions every Sunday and online classes during the week. The curriculum covered basics in the following courses: Web designing, graphic designing, social media management and general computer knowledge.
Challenges Encountered
- Electricity issues: Training was delayed for two consecutive Sundays due to power outages.
- Tutor unavailability: Some tutors missed sessions, requiring substitutions.
- Limited digital proficiency: Many students struggled with basic computer skills, necessitating additional support.
- University exams conflict: Many participants could not submit assignments due to ongoing exams.

Certification & Further Opportunities

- Two trainees (1 female, 1 male) were selected as interns at GoGreen Technologies to advance their skills in graphic design and web development.
- One participant enrolled in an advanced graphic design course with Fexify at a subsidized rate to further his expertise.
Conclusion & Way Forward
The Cohort 4 program successfully trained 170 youth, with a strong gender balance and hands-on skill-building approach. The hybrid training method allowed flexibility, though power outages and tutor availability posed challenges. The project has demonstrated long-term impact, with select participants securing internships and further training.
