Surprisingly, a good number of youths in Buea are ignorant of their health, especially sexually transmitted infections including HIV, Gonorrhoea, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C. This issue has stood out most in good percentage for women aged 15-25 and men aged 18-25, whereby lack of sexual health education, limited knowledge, cultural beliefs and poverty fuels transmission of these diseases.

Despite the availability of medical services, many youths avoid getting tested due to fear and stigma. This leads to the continued spread of STDs, as infected individuals unknowingly transmit the diseases to their partners. The statistics are alarming: 90 out of 100 young women who undergo premarital testing are carriers of STDs, with 80 showing symptoms. Among young men, 80 out of 100 are carriers, with 60 showing symptoms. Also, cultural norms about the need for these discussions to be reduced more feature in schools rather than around homes contributing to this problem, poverty very much induces the younger women into older men whose presence naturally increases the risk of infection. 

Understanding how critical it is to note the health status, knowing full well that the steady increase in STDs will cause the youth of one generation to be unproductive due to health problems, which will inhibit them from participating in the socio-economic development of the community.

The primary objectives of this project are to ensure that the youth capture the importance of sexual health and its related aspects as well as the dangers of STDs, offer the services of STD testing for youth free of charge, set up agreements with treating institutions for further services, and provide economic support to the younger women to avoid relationship with older men.

This project, which targets young people between the ages of 15-25, especially young women, intends to reduce STDs and the burden of disease in the population. Restraint is encouraged, as allowing the problem of STD infection to persist leads to an increase in the population affected and aggravating health constraints. This affects sponsored states such as ours that rely on demographic revitalization for strained human development. To stop this, integrated education on sexual health will be integrated under the free community service of free members to be tested for STIs, linkages with local clinics as follow-up services as well as starting up income generating programs for young women. These solutions aim to create a healthier, informed, and empowered generation capable of contributing positively to their community.
